This structural-looking succulent plant from South Africa is often called 'jade tree' and indeed, it does grow to resemble a small, many-branched tree, around 90 cm tall if grown in a pot (though it can grow taller if planted in the ground, up to 1.5 m or more). It has thick brown stems and plump, shiny, wedge-shaped leaves that can be edged with red. In winter, it has sprays of dainty pale pink or white flowers.
It looks good growing in a pot and I have also seen it used most effectively as an informal hedge, where it looks wonderful all year round. It likes a sunny position and needs almost no maintenance, apart from trimming off the spent flowers at the end of its blooming season. Propagation is by cuttings.
